Get out of Malay grouping, Shahidan tells Zaid

KANGAR: Perlis Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has slammed former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim over his remarks on ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy) which Shahidan regards as extreme.

“Zaid should repent. Otherwise, he should get out of rumpun Melayu (Malay grouping),” the former Perlis menteri besar said yesterday.

Shahidan, who is also Arau Umno division chief, said Zaid “is a Malay and should be behaving like a Malay”.

“He should have the Malay spirit and not question ketuanan Melayu openly,” Shahidan said when met at the closing of the Perlis Open Cycling Championship 2008 here.

He said if Zaid continued to question the Malay supremacy concept, he should no longer be a Malay because as a Malay, he should be defending the Malays and not running them down.
Shahidan, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, wants Zaid to apologise for his remarks.

Zaid had said recently that the ketuanan Melayu concept was a failure and detrimental to the Malay race, and that it had caused wastage of resources, energy and time needed to address the real issues in the country.

This, after they did badly on March 8 . . .

Umno Youth holds demo against appointment

KUALA LUMPUR: About 30 Umno Youth members held a peaceful demonstration at the Kajang toll plaza, near here, yesterday to protest the appointment of Low Siew Moi as acting general manager of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

Kajang OCPD ACP Mohd Sakaruddin Che Mood, when contacted, said 15 police personnel were despatched to the scene at 10am. The group dispersed about two hours later.

Low’s appointment as acting PKNS general manager has drawn objections from various quarters, including six PKNS unions, which claimed that it did not fulfil the aspirations of the establishment of PKNS to upgrade the socio-economic status of bumiputeras.
